The newer bulbs I am referring to produce much more light and have whiter/bluer color to them. They make regular bupbs look yellowish in comparison. What is the BEST of these newer high output bulbs ? what brand and what output would be THE BEST for a 2001 C-5 Corvette ? I am seeking an answer based on FACTS, not just opinions ... Thanks

I own a 2002 C5.

1) I was not happy with the light output (Lumens) from the standard bulbs supplied with the car.

2) I found that there are two alternatives. Replace the bulbs or replace the headlight system with the newer technology....bluer lights. Replacing the bulbs is a do it yourself job and cost less than two hundred dollars total. Replacing the technology is possible (high intensity LED), although the results may not be any better since we are talking lumens here(brightness), about $2,500 and not do it yourself.

3) I replaced the bulbs. I am well pleased with the results with particular and noticeable impovement on high beam. These bulbs truly light up the night on high beam. I went with the high output PIAA product. The bulbs have worked perfectly for over three years.

4) here is the product info.

Corvette 97-04 - PIAA (Low Beams) - 9006 , PIAA (High Beams)9005

Again, I have been well pleased with the results and did the job in about an hour in my driveway.

Consumer Reports tested those a few months back. Results: Stick with the standard bulbs for best results for the most part.

Poke around their website for more details.

The only ones that will increase the light by any significant amount are the high-wattage ones. Those aren't road legal though most cops don't know the difference. They might cause you to bust a safety inspection though if the inspector really know his stuff. They can also overheat your headlight circuit wiring and cause fuses to blow or circuit breakers to reset -- personal experience on that.

Stick with the regular bulbs. The aftermarket white/blue lights make it harder to see when it's raining at night. I know this from personal experience.
