Get the right hobby (one you actually love to do) and the friends will automatically come, and the great thing is that they will enjoy what you enjoy. Hard finding a hobby, but here are some suggestions. First are you an active outside person or an inside person. Being an inside person myself, I can only recommend what I found cool.
1) Never liked crafts, but when I got into glass I liked it. Melting old glass (bottles) with colorant to make things like wind chimes or whatever. Some do stained glass.
2) Wind/Solar devices to make electricity. I went strong for the wind turbines of all sizes.
3) Computer hardware - beefing up my computer myself; learning about the motherboards and other boards - see www.newegg.com or tigerdirect.com
4) Digital photography - sort of goes with #3
5) Locksmithing (but thats just me)
6) electronic kits you put together yourself.
7) Doing work on my house to improve things. A DIY thing.
8) Games you play over the net or in person like board games. Try to find players in your general area because if you like each other it is easier to visit.
9) This one sounds crazy but it is really good. Go to a local AA meeting. (Alcoholics Anonymous) - very friendly people in your area with all sorts of interests.
10) Get a small pet like a small dog. Cats are not to much company but can be left alone to fend for themselves for days if they have food and water. Dogs need daily attention.
---> There are groups and forums for all sorts of things.
See Yahoo groups
This ought to give you some ideas.

Oh my I was once where you are..Let me say this to you..People don't make you happy it's yourself that has to do that.I wouldn't much say this is a hobby but I would suggest you find a church or a mission or an organization that lets you help others.(Salvation Army,Red Cross,Catholic Charities etc)You don't have to go in with a sermon on the mount per say but when you help others it's so for filling to see the smile on there face.It doesn't have to be a lot.You should never feel lonely there is enough things to do in the world that would be for filling and enjoyable to you.Smile first and just sing a song a joyous one..Try it you might just get amune to the fact that people won't let you be lonely they will be waiting for your smile and helping hand. Good Luck.

Well first you have to decide what it is you want to do. What kind of things do u like to do? Then find a place where you can go do those things and then go do them. It takes determination especially for someone who does not like to be around a lot of people or has a hard time making friends. Just don't be intimidated by others they are people too.

Myspace is a great place to meet alll different types of people.
But also, if you are religious, chuch would be a good place. Check and see if they have any types of social groups there. you can also meet someone in various fundraiseres. This way you will find people who have similar interests with you.

I am so sorry. I was very alone too when is was young. Join a club that is of interest to you. At school or after school. Community services have meetings of groups that share interests. Hospitals, most not-for- profits have outings or meetings.

In order to have a friend, you have to BE a friend. No man is an island by himself.
