On average, how many SAT II Subject Tests should an Ivy League applicant take? Is it possible to take too many and have a negative effect on your application? Should you only take these tests after taking an AP class over the same subject or will completing a regular/honors class be enough to take a subject test? If not, would it be a bad idea to take a subject test over all the courses you've taken in school, like Biology, World History, US History, Chemistry, Physics, Math II, Literature, Chinese, French?

Thanks for any info!

Its good to be well rounded, in your SAT subject tests. However you should concentrate on your field of study, for example if your going into the Natural Science field, concentrate on Biology, Chemistry, and Math 2. Your free to take as many as you like, if you are confident that you can do good on all of them. its better to get great scores on a few, then get mediocre scores on a lot. I personally took 3, and the colleges I called up and asked, also told me the same information that, I'm repeating to you. Also make sure you know what Subject tests that certain school is asking for. Rice for example asks for Chemistry, and Math 2, if your going to the Natural Science field.

Good luck, and remember 700 on 3 tests, makes a better impression than 500 on 9

You probably only need 2-3 for most ivies. Take the tests you'll do the best on (some are rather difficult). Also, show your range. For example, if you're Chinese, it would be more impressive to an admissions rep if you took the French SAT II than the Chinese (even if you don't score as highly). Similarly, taking both World and US history would be somewhat unimpressive. Lastly, many schools will require the Math II, so check the websites of the schools you're interested in.

Personally, I do not think it is really bad taking many of them, but I do reommend taking the tests, at minimum, that would tie into your intended college major. However, the College Board website recommends taking a foreign language one after two years of study in school. However, in the end, you need to discuss this with your college counselor and the individual colleges on how they view the SAT II tests. I have included some further readings on the matter.

only for the reason which you have chinese language background would not propose which you comprehend the language and it is lifestyle. regardless of in case you do, the colleges have not have been given any way of understanding this. So only loosen up, in case you took it, it would additionally be of a few income to you, and no remember if it is not of income oh nicely, it is nevertheless not likely to electrify you.
