its not how you tell her thats important.. just that you tell her right away. its her descision as to how she reacts and you just gotta hope she understands. either way she will be more hurt the longer you stay quiet.

Tell her that you have heard that some men where tights/stockings under their normal clothes to keep warm in these chilly months. Ask her what she would say if you did this. If she frowns upon it, keep quiet, if she laughs about it, say your cold!
