I am an ophthalmic assistant. The dry stuff in your eyes is just know as crusting. While you sleep the lacrimal glands do not produce tears, therefore, dryness to the cornea, thus the corner of your eyes in the morning. To try to help alleviate this problem, when you lay down at night put a drop of natural tears in your eyes. If your eyes/eyelashes are mattered in the morning and you have to use a washcloth to open them, you need to see an ophthalmologist, it could be an underlying infection, especially if you wear contacts.
