► Just use NVU editor (www.nvu.com), it's free and wont tie you down to one method of editing. NVU pages can be transferrable to frontpage or dreamweaver html editor
SEE http://www.interkeys.com/htmleditor for more info on Premium HTML Editors (WYSIWYG)
► For free hosting, try google pages pages.google.com or yahoo geocities ,
its sort of free hosting, but you are limited to a subdomain on googlepages & geo has ads on your website - otherwise I would use http://www.interkeys.com/tophosts to get one for a few bucks a month with 500 GIG bandwidth and the rich with features
its up to you how developed a site you want and if you want to use your own domain name

1) Register your own domain name, don't let someone else do it so that you are listed as the owner. I recommend using Go Daddy because while registering the domain name you can get other services.
2) Setup your web hosting environment. This is where your domain name will point and you will put your web pages that people will see when they type in your domain name.
3) Setup your email for your domain so that you can send / receive email for your domain.
---Again I recommend www.godaddy.com because you can accomplish all 3 steps above in one easy step. They offer some nice site builder tools no matter what your skill level.----
4) Build a graphical look for your site. This is what it will look like, there are plenty of free templates out there.
5) Put up a home page on the site either using the content management system that comes with your hosting account or get a copy of a web editor that you have access to. There are plenty of FREE ones out there if you don't want to use Go Daddys tools.
Once you have a home page up you should have an accessible site. Then you should come up with a plan or strategy for the rest of your site that is in sync with your Business Plan / Marketing Plan.

Look up http://www.excelyourbiz.com
to learn how to build a professional website on your own without the high cost of paying for a webmaster for free or for a low cost. They show you everything you need to know to build your own web site.
They offer advice and guide you through the steps to
build your very own web site. Basic computer skills are needed
and you don't need to be a computer whiz to build your own website.

First of all you should install a HTML editor application such as Dreamweaver or Frontpage.
I prefer macromedia dreamweaver and fireworks for design graphics.
Then create your web pages and make the links, then publish it to the web.
