Little Rosa has a completely stuffed nose on one side that's starting to bulge like an abcess. It's really hurting her, but the vet can't see her until any sooner than Tuesday. Any suggestions as to how I could help out my poor ig?

This sounds like something a vet should take care of. As long as she is eating and pooping normally, just try to make her as comfortable as possible. She might go off feed a bit and this is ok for a few days.

Also, I would get out the Yellow Pages on Monday and start calling around to see who treat exotics and who might be able to get you in sooner. It's always good to have a back up vet anyway.

Melissa Kaplan has a list of vets on her website who treat exotics. Go to www.anapsid.org and follow the links. There's a list of vets all over, internationally, I think.

In the meantime, if this is an abcess, or blocked salt gland, there's nothing you can do. Best to leave it to the vet.

If you can keep her enclosure humid, do so, but not too much. In an enclosed environment, too much humidity can cause mold and fungus problems.

If you really think it's a serious problem, you can check the Yellow Pages, again for an emergency vet who treats exotics. This will be about twice the cost, but you will have to decide if the situation is severe enough.

Best thing to do is make sure she has fresh food and water, proper temps and as little stress as possible, until you can get her to the vet.

Good Luck

first you could mist the tank and raise the humidity level in the tank to see if it will soften up and drain out

may be a warm bath to help loosen might help
try some polisporean or vasiline on the nose to soften
thats all i can think of

Don't try anything if you're not a professional. Just wait for the vet to get in.
