They have certain rules that apply only to them, and depending on age, must have a work permit. But there are many very young child actors and such who work pretty long hours.

That's like asking "Does England have a 4th of July?"
Child laboUr is only illegal if it exploits the youngster by FORCING that person to work longer hours for little or no pay.
In the USA, it is left primarily up to each State to determine their legal guidelines. For instance, in New York or New Jersey, one must be 18 years of age to operate machinery, while in the farm belt, Kansas, Iowa, etc. the age is a bit younger, say 16 yrs. old.
If you ever watch a film and see a baby, or young child, you know that child or infant was PAID for their appearance. The Coogan Law was enacted to assure that.
So, in effect, I guess the answer is NO, child labor, as such is NOT illegal, but it must be properly monitored.

In the UK you can work from 13, but only limited hours and workplaces. The employer has to register with the local authority and get vetted etc. You still have to stay in full time education until about the age of 16 too.

It's against the law here that's for sure. You have to have a work permit if you're 15.
