I have a few suggestions for you. 1st I think that you should sit down and talk to your parents about how you feel. Tell them why you don't enjoy practice and why you don't like swim meets anymore. You might come to a conclusion that you need to find another swim program or that you need a break for a little while. It is perfectly ok to take a break from practices and meets, I've done it before and it helped a lot. So start by talking to your parents and then you may realize that you just need a break and then you can figure out what to do from there when the time comes! Give yourself a chance to see what it is like without swimming in your life before you quit altogether. Good luck and don't give up yet! :-)

I had that same problem about two years ago. Now I don't know you personally so it's difficult to see where you stand but if you are realy a good swimmer then you may be "burned out." This is what happend to pretty much any athlete when they have strived to be the best and gotten theere and still being pushed further.
OR you're an average swimmer, and you're sick of being average and you want change.

What you really need to think about is. If I didn't have all this pressure, would I still swim? The easiet way to find out is, wehn youe on the block ready to race, are you doing it for you, or because you have to?

Eether way you need to figure out if you still have the same passion and figure out if you should continue or not.

I don't know how old you are, but if you havn't swam for high school yet then I highly suggest at least one season of that. It might change your mind it is so fun.

I felt the same way while i swam club swimming it was tough man, we had two practices a day each over 2 hours long for 6 days of the week. I was about ready to quit but then i entered high school swimming and it was just so much fun they make you work hard and still have fun like everytime we won a meet we would play sharks and minows. I would just suggest taking some time off swimming and then coming back in about 3 weeks

i love swimming. it's just the fact that i can't swim well enough is what i hate. i love being under water. i love feeling free. but im probably the worst on my swim team and that's why i hate doing it. im on a swim team. yes. and i go three times a week. and i really wanted to quit before too, and i was scared of my parents being mad about it and stuff. cuz they drive me to pratice and buy me all those swimming equipments and stuff. but now i don't wanna quit. you're right. swimming does increase your chances in getting a scholarship. like one of the answers said, it might just b your swm team. you can find another swim team that has people who encourages you instead of pushing you. it's a good thing that coaches are pushing you. they don't want to .but they want to see you emprove. i used to have a coach who pushes me like that. he left the pool and now nobody pushes us anymore. u'll see. the "pushing" is acutally motivation for you. so maybe just look at swimming as your goal. and try to improve and do your best .if you find that you really don't wanna do it anymore, talk it over with your parents and maybe find something else you enjoying doing. swimming isn't the only way to get into colledge , you know. good luck!

Well you have to decide what you want. Yes swimming is hard..Nobody said it was easy. Practice..well its a pain...I had to practice 2 hours before school everyday and an hour after school every day our whole team did. But practice WILL make you better..Even though you hate it..We had to do snakes, hills (god,..i hated those..oh and we had to do them with a 10 lb medicine ball..Im not talkin little hills..Im talkin almost straight up, vertical hills). One day I wasnt doin my flip turns and I had to do 44 hills with a medicine ball..It was hell!..Swim meets to me are the best because you get to show other teams what you can do. But if you dont wanna do it or dont like doin it anymore...There is no use in stayin on the team....I have always belived that you should do what you love and have fun doin it or dont do it at all...So..its basically all up to you..Its mental.. I hope you figure it out!

Good Luck,
Swim Girl

I don't know how good you are but if you are counting on swimming to get you into college you better be pretty danm good. Also, on the money thing, look around for what scholarships would be available for you outside of swimming. There are a bunch of places where you can get 1 and 2 thousand dollar scholarships along with financial aid from schools.

You love swimming honey. Otherwise you won't be doing it for a long time and you won't be putting so much time and effor on it.

I don't believe in "pressure". There is no pressure from your parents or anything. It's just in your head.

What you really hate is the situation you're in. May it be your too serious team mates, your pushy coach or the general scenario. Trust me, we all go through this same situation. But just hang in there.

Your question went to the "Sport>Swimming&Diving" because you chose this category. Even though you know your question doesn't fit in here. (It should go to "Social Issues>Personal whatever".)...

...but still, subconsciously, you went straight to the swimming category. YOU LOVE TO SWIM !

I advise you to keep in taking swimming even if you don't like it - but if you really hate it that much, then perhaps there is some other team sport similar that you would enjoy more...something that your parents would still approve of and love. Have you ever considered water polo?

if you are really not interest in swimming anymore, then i think you should either switch to a different sport or join some clubs. I know some people that didn't join any sports but were in some clubs and they were really committed. So all i am trying to say is if swimming isn't your sport then do a different sport or join some clubs that you would be interested in. Hope this is helpful:)

it's the old swimmers story...

most swimmers complain about swimming at one point or another...but when asked "why do you do it then?", they don't know. i think you might miss it if you actually quit.

and if you really want to quit and do, you really have to work hard academically, especially in high school. i'm talking honors classes, clubs, volunteer work, etc. it is possible to get a non-sport scholorship.
