You do not need to douche after a period, after sex, or any time for that matter. The vagina is able to clean itself naturally, meaning, it is able to get rid of blood, sperm, and bacteria on its own. It doesn't need help from over the counter douches. Douching is actually detrimental to vaginal and reproductive health.

Regular vaginal douching changes the delicate chemical balance of the vagina and can make a woman more susceptible to infections. Douching can introduce new bacteria into the vagina which can spread up through the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes. Researchers have found that women who douche regularly experience more vaginal irritations and infections such as bacterial vaginosis, and an increased number of sexually transmitted diseases.

Bacterial Vaginitis (BV) is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria that are normally found in the vagina. Symptoms are itching, burning, and a thin, off-white discharge that often smells bad or "fishy."

You don't need to douche, ever, because when you do you just get rid of the "evidence" (for the lawyers out there), but you don't actually treat anything. If you smell "fishy" down there, you need to get checked for bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas, and other sexually transmitted diseases.

My doctor warns me every checkup not to, I think it's just kinda part of her speil. She says that they are not good for you and for multiple reasons including pH levels, infection, and dryness. There isn't any conclusive research, but it's one of those "better safe than sorry" things where research POINTS TOO links where doucheing is unhealthy.

There are other things that can be done to feel fresh. Feminine washes as well as feminine towelletes that you can carry in your purse for 'freshining up,' even at work or out shopping. Wearing pantyliners can also help to absorb any odor you may be experiencing.

Below is a link to an article on WebMD that gives some more information.

A woman should not douch at all. The reason is because it will push back what ever bacteria your body is naturally trying to get rid of. If you want to feel fresher, you can buy feminine wipes which you use each time you go to the washroom, or whenever you want to freshen up.

Douching does more harm than good. It whacks out your Ph balance. Your body is designed to clean itself from the inside out.

There are mixed recommendations when it comes to that. Actually, one of the best things you can do, is take baths, Take them several times a month, it's much better for you, works better actually, just don't overdo the bath bubbles, etc.,

Actually no, it's not good for you. It pushes the toxins your body is trying to get rid of back inside your body. Your body will flush it's own self own when it's ready.
