When we first moved into our house the prior owner put in brand new wall-to-wall carpeting - WHITE. We asked everyone to remove their shoes before leaving the entry way. With 2 pets and a teenager the white carpeting did not fit within our life style so little by little we replaced it. Now, when I enter someone elses house I take the lead from the owner. If they are wearing shoes, I keep mine on, if they are not wearing shoes, I ask if they prefer I take mine off.

I always remove my shoes whenever entering my home. In my house it is a rule that shoes do not come inside. I do the same when I visit someone because I feel that if they are asked to take their shoes off in my house I should not wear shoes in their home. All of my regular visitors know about the rule and take their shoes off without question. Some people will come and see the shoes on the porch and just kick theirs off without me having to say anything. Other people may just say "shoes off?" I reply yea its kinda a rule here. Whenever I invite people over I will always tell them before they arrive about the no shoes rule casually. I will just say oh when you get here use the door with the porch so you will have a place to take off your shoes.

Yes, out of respect. Some people have such light carpeting in their homes, so when I am at the door I automatically remove my shoes. My adopted daughter is from Indonesia and it is a custom in her country to do this, so I respect her and remove my shoes when I enter her home.

When I enter a home of someone who requests that the shoes be removed I'd do it...but here in the USA...most people leave their shoes on....and I'm one of them. It would keep our carpets cleaner..so who knows we might start doing it!

Sometimes I do. I think it shows that you are polite and respectful. However, not removing your shoes does not mean that you disrespect them. You sound like a polite and respectful person just because you asked. If it makes you feel comfortable, take them off. If you see a shoe "tray" on the floor by the door, by all means, take them off. Or, do what the homeowner does.

i don't get rid of my footwear as quickly as i'm homestead from artwork, however at cases i'll just to be happy. i would not experience delicate taking my footwear off anybody's homestead, regardless of in the event that they did not scent. I even have rarily taken them off on the urging of the centred visitor with whom i became traveling. I only took mine off after having them on for over 12 hours. Ahhh excessive high quality.

My lord people-YES-I am so sick of steam cleaning my living room because people don't have any common courtesy to do so themselves. And especially at someone else's home-take them off out of consideration, unless your feet stink or something.
