GSM is bases on TDMA technology using a 200 kHz channel with eight time slots. GSM has integrated encryption which provides privacy and virtually eliminates fraud. GSM uses a subscriber identity module (SIM) card. A SIM card can store phones numbers in its own directory. This mean when you get a new phone, (the new phone must also use a SIM card) you don't have to program your stored numbers all over again.
