I would probably choose these:

Anthrax, which is fungal,

Influenza, which is viral.

Malaria, which is protizoan.

I like Influenza over AIDS because of the cool way in which Flu shots are developed. People attempt to predict what a year of mutation will do to the virus, create the predicted virus, and pump you full of dead virus. It's amazing that it works.

I like Malaria for many reasons, including its unique life cycle, the tendency for certain human blood cell mutations to inhibit it, and some other reasons. I study blood metabolism in my lab, so I might be biased on this one.

Anthrax I just think is more interesting than Athelete's Foot, Ringworm, and other fungi like those. Besides, people tend to be scared of it and I like to know why.

The E. coli bacterium has been in the news lately. The AIDS virus (HIV) is probably one of the most significant human pathogens to come along recently. And the protozoa Giardia lamblia is the most common cause of diarrhea in North America. And Athlete's Foot is caused by the Trichophyton fungus (not terribly interesting, but common).

These are my favorites

Bacteria- Escherichia coli, enterotoxogenic Ecoli; Ecoli 0157; H7
-the Godfather, always in the news and plenty of material in recent articles and media plus its an excellent segue into a virus topic. [Caused by a virus]

Fungi- Trichophyton rubrum - AKA Digger the Dermatophyte
- Dermatophyte that causes Onchymycosis
- Great mycosa, I have a ton of material on this one, plus there are emerging laser therapies and antibiotics for this one.

Virus- HIV/AIDS

Protist- Plasmodium
-The pathogen that causes Malaria. Kills 3 million people worldwide every year.

What? You've just to pick three? Have you to write essays about them or something? Any particular area, like the diseases they cause or something?
