Lutheranism and Calvinism have their roots in the Reformation of the 16th Century. Attempts were made to reform the Roman Catholic Church of its corruption and teaching of false doctrine. As a result of the Reformation , there was more than a change in "religion"; it was a change in thought, in life, and what it meant to be a human being in God's world. It was a world in which we have confidence in God and hope for the future, based on his grace to us in the Christ of the Scriptures, which we receive through faith alone. (Kirsten Birkett 1998 pp100,101)
Martin Luther did not want to give his name to a new church or a new religion. He was an ardent evangelist of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was a teacher, theologian and translator of the Bible into High German. Luther and the "Lutheran movement" helped Germany to grow as a nation. John Calvin was 26 years younger than Luther so his journey, from being a French Catholic to choosing Protestantism when he reached adulthood, was easier. John Calvin implemented social reforms as well as theological ones. Things like working with the councils to promote civil obedience, law and order, compulsory education and public health schemes. Calvinism spread as a movement as far as the US. Such an amazing period of history. Hope my amateur attempt helps you.

the difference is this: Lutheranism is a theory created by Martin Luther in the Renaissance, he was a catholic monk; but when he was 22 or 25 years old he created the 95 martin Luther's thesis, and he was throw out of the catholic church for his ideas, and then he decided to create another independent christian Church called Lutheranism, with calin is the same history, but Calvinism was spread in Switzerland and Lutheranism was spread in Norse countries like Norway

there is very little difference.
one started in Germany.
the other in Scotland.
It was the time of the introduction of the printing press, and people could read the bible for themselves.
Naturally quite a few christian sects began around that time
