Re-install windows from CD. Don't reformat, and with a bit of luck you will be able to reinstall over the existing copy or to another drive letter. If that works then at least you won;t lose everything from your harddrive. Of course you could reformat and reinstall everything else from backups.... you do make regular backups don't you?

From my past experience with a previous laptop, instead of going through that continuous cycle (which can just go on infinitely, depending upon what's corrupted within the laptop), you should find your startup disk- you should have got a disk with your laptop which contains the operating system. When you start the laptop, put the CD in the drive, and when it prompts (if at all), boot the CD, and if the choice is there, choose a full reformat of your hard-drive and do a fresh install.
By doing this, you will be wiping your entire hard drive which allows all corrupted files to be deleted and replaced properly.
If your disk doesn't allow you to do a full reformat of your hard drive, somebody else here with more of an IT background will probably be able to tell you how to manually reformat. =)

when you first start your computer press F12 and load the computer in safe mode that will enable you to get to you windows desktop. After that you can run some diagnostics. They useually do a good job. If that doesn't work you can always format you computer. This is an option if you don't have anything you need on your comp. because it delets everything on your computer. If you don't have that disk anymore you can order it on-line

Maybe this might help. Reboot, and while it's trying to start-up keep pushing the F8 key. Hopefully this will bring you to a black screen with lots of options, one is "Use last know good configuration." Hope it works, chow.

ok so it should not do that. just do it as normal and then if that does not help, the thing i would do in your situation is go to the BIOS by either presing F2 or dell OR WHAT EVER COMAND IT IS TO GO INTO THE SETUP PAGE AND CHANGE THE FIRST BOOT device to hardrive.

if you are religious at all, then pray for it. Thats what I did when my laptop broke and it started working one day later. I think it is a sign...
