I was a barmaid, and complained to my employers that a man was continually grabbing my bottom and my breasts while I tried to do my job. Nothing was done, and I was told that I had to continue to serve him. My partner had a polite word with the gentleman a few days later, when it became apparent that the customer was not going to stop. I was then chastised by my employer for 'having my boyfriend come to work with me'. I was told that its my responsibility to deal with gropey perverts, but was not allowed to be rude, bar them or retaliate in any way. This took place yesterday. Today I was fired because being 'an attractive woman with large breasts would always attract that sort of attention, and they can't wrap me in cotton wool'. They fired me because they think I'm too soft and can't take men looking at me and making rude comments. The leers and the pervy remarks I can take, its the grabbing and touching that I don't think I have to put up with. Any thoughts?

ALL employers have a duty to keep their staff safe.

your manager was very wrong and it is disgusting for him to behave that way...... would he let his daughter be molested like that..... i dont think so !!!!!!!!!!!!

you should enlist the help of an employment solicitor.

you have a good case

i find the behaviour of that landlord appalling, i have been in the pub industry a very long time and there is NO WAY you have to put up with that

there is a huge difference between having a laugh and a joke with customers and being molested.

get some legal advise

good luck

I have been a bar manager in central London for 12 years. there are certain aspects of the law which are quite unclear regarding this matter. now if somebody steps foot behind the bar in a harassing or intimidating way you can hit them over the head with a bottle of vodka and walk away with a caution but on the other side of the bar is an unfair and different story. my best advice to you is either deal with it your self and give him a good slap or grab and twist his bollocks, or the sensible solution is to keep a diary of what is happening and people who witness it, and keep dates of when reporting to your manager and make sure somebody neutral is with you to witness the report, or you can record the conversation with your boss. if they still refuse to do anything about you can report in to your brewery personnel, if its a free house then visit your local citizens advice, they are brilliant and helped me with a similar problem i had with my area manager. he's now stacking shelves in a supermarket and i have a pub in old park lane....Carma is a fabulous thing but you must cover your own back...good luck

barstaff supposedley are to take an amount of affection to put it politely but it is the employers responsibility to react to a complaint especially of sexual harrassment. depending on long you were employed and if you have witnesses apart from your partner you may be able to go to employment tribunal or bring private procceedings against the brewery and or the pub management on the grounds of misconduct due to your health, safety and not looking after your personal needs at work. good luck

It is time for you to call the Labour Board and launch a sexual harassment enquiry. All employers are required to provide a working environment that is free of sexual harassment. Stiff penalties are placed on employers who do not meet this legal requirement.

Good luck...don't delay this must be rectified.

Any employer has a responsibility to their staff regarding sexual harassment. Go to citizens advice, they'll help.
I would serious seek compensation as your boss was obviously needs educating.
So that's SEXUAL HARASSMENT
and it also sounds like WRONGFULL DISMISSAL as well.
You might actually get hundreds of pounds in deserved compensation. Go for it!

that was a bad owner. no one has the right to put their hands on you. well you know except for your b/f. yes they have a responsibility to keep you safe. this guy might have taken it further if you had not been fired. i wouldn't worry about being fired from that place. that owner should probably be in jail. good luck

yes i do think it should be up to the landlord to sort out problems like yours and certainly not by firing you. take him to court for unfair dismissal and not protecting you in your work. maybe then he will think twice about treating other attractive barstaff. goodluck
