I am a 20 year old and have black hair. I've recently noticed several strands of white hair on my head. What is going on? Is something wrong with my health? Also, is there any way to prevent any more white hair from growing?

Nothing's wrong with you. It's most likely determined by your genes. I'm 19, and I found my first grey hair over 2 years ago. It was an excuse for me to start dying my boring, drab brown hair a nice shade of auburn.

It mostly comes down to two things: stress and heredity. My dad and his mom started going gray at around 17 as well. I wasn't stressed at that point, but I did have a tendency to find more greys when I was stressed out.

Don't worry too much about it. At least you still have your hair.

Look at Anderson Cooper (CNN) he is only in his thirties and has been silver for years... it could be stress, but more likely it was programed into your body from the time you were born to turn a little white at an early age... put a little dye on it if it bothers you, but a little grey can be very attractive.

I am 25.. i have had white hairs since i was 19. I believe this is a genetic trait that is passed down. my mother had premature grey hair at 18. I dont believe you can reduce the amount of future greys. just be proud of them..!!!

white hair in someone your age is usually genetic.the gene is inherited.I've known people in grade school who had salt and pepper hair.my advice is don't pull it out that can split the hair follicle and 2 comes back instead of 1.you can consult a dermatologist about it i know i read something about new research that they now know why it happens. good luck .

It's all genetics. Some people at 20 are bald or very thin haired. It's all about what your momma gave you as you were concevied.
