My 4 month old daughter is a proficient roller and every time I lay her down for a nap or at night she immediately rolls to her tummy to sleep. I go in and roll her back over peroidically but she rolls right back onto her tummy. Is it OK to leave her like that, or is there something else I should be doing? She can roll both ways, but rolls back to tummy the most. What would you do?

We've tried one of those wedge sleep positioners and she just scoots herfself out of it, she's a mover, and can manage to get herself sideways with her legs out of the crib slats in a matter of minutes :)

Leave her be. If she is a good roller now, then she is FINE to sleep on her tummy. She can move around herself now. Just don't leave soft bedding, toys in there for her to get tangled up in.
My first would roll onto his tummy when we put him down and this is what our doc told us.
ETA:
I asked about the sleep positioners too and my doc agreed that they are really for babies who aren't mobile yet. Putting one of those in with a baby who is rolling is more likely to cause problems than to keep the baby on her back.

If your daughter does that, she's trying to tell you something.."Hey mom, I'm old enough to lay how I want!" The American Pediatric Association says babies should sleep on their backs until they begin to put themselves how they want to sleep. Don't worry if this is what she chooses. Just be sure that there are no loose sheets, pillows or toys that she can get hung up on. Check out www.verybestbaby.com for other sleep stuff.

Have you tried a sleep positioner to help keep her on her back? I think at 4 months you should still strive to have her sleep on her back to reduce risk of SIDS. If you can't afford a sleep positioner you can try rolling some receiving blankets lengthwise and wedging them next to her torso to prevent her from rolling.

She feels more comfortable that way. You can't stop it. You just heve to be on alert. When I was a child, I prefered laying on my stomach. Guess what? I grew up! I am now 67yo.
P.s., I now sleep on my side. My body has changed. Other changes have occured as well.

as long as she can roll over, she is fine. she would be able to lift herself if need be.
my daughter slept on her tummy from day one...or on her side. and thankfully she doesn't have that flat head i see so many babies with *ew!*
but my daughter could lift her face from 2 weeks on...so we knew she was ok. and she is now 7.

My son's been sleeping on his stomach since birth almost. Once they can roll over themselves its not so bad to leave them becuase obvisouly they can roll themevles on their back too.

It's fine, because as long as she can roll over properly, she is able to roll away if her breathing is obstructed in any way.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. It would seem that she is developing a preference for sleeping on her stomach. Let her do it.
If you are worrying about SIDS, do know that most SIDS deaths are of babies UNDER four months.
