A sale of property is to be divided by three sisters in the ratio of 4 to 3 to 5. The selling price of the property was $600123. Determine the number of dollars each sister is to recieve.

Add the ratios together and determine how many "shares" there are total. 4 + 3 + 5 = 12 "shares". $600123 / 12 = $50010.25 per share.
then multiply back by the number of shares each had..
4 shares @ $50,010.25 = $200,041.00 to sister 1.
3 shares @ $50,010.25 = $150,030.75 to sister 2.
5 shares @ $50,010.25 = $250,051.25 to sister 3.
Total of $600,123.

A ratio is the same as a percent. 4:3:5 is the same as saying that the first sister is getting four parts out of a total of twelve, 4/12, or 33.3333...%. The second sister is getting three parts out of twelve, 3/12, or 25%. The third sister is getting five parts out of twelve, 5/12, or 41.66%
Multiplying each of those percentages by the amount of money gives you:
33.33333%*$600123=$200041
25%*$600123=$150030.75
41.66%*$600123=$250051.25
The sum of 200041 + 150030.75 + 250051.25 = $600123
