Hello, class yourself very lucky that your baby is refusing the dummy. I personally find them unhygienic, they drop them all over the show and then pick it up and stick it in their mouths again.
Another thing is an Orthodontist once told me that dummies are one of the major reasons that kids have problems with their teeth. So there will be no railway-tracks for your baby when she grow's up and have all her own teeth. You are very very lucky.:)))

Why on earth would this be a problem? I didn't give either of my kids a dummy. There's nothing worse than seeing a cute little face and a dummy hiding a beautiful smile. Not to mention the buck teeth, dependency and hygiene issues. It's also a lot easier to just shove a dummy into a screaming mouth then to actually spend time soothing or trying to find the root of the problem. Just enjoy kissing your lovely little babies face without the plastic in the way!!

My son was the same. It is a good thing he wont take a dummy, not a bad one. Think of the advantages!! No steralising it, no losing it in the middle of the night and pulling your hair out to find another one! Also many children find the dummy a hard habit to break and insist on having it during the day too! My son only sucks his thumb when he is falling asleep, so chances are, yours would do the same. Dont forse him to have a dummy, coz in a few years when u cant get the thing out of his mouth, you may end up regretting it! Good luck!

My daughter was 6 months old when she first took a dummy, it's not a bad thing. You may find that a different type of comforter will help. My daughter only had a dummy at 6 months because she had a cold and was poorly, up until then she would just spit them out. He is saving you a job for later on as at least you won't have to wean him off of it at a later date. I would see it as a good thing. xx

Some babies take dummies and some don't. Perhaps they just prefer their fingers or maybe would prefer a bit of comfort blanket to suck on instead. The only advantage of dummies is that you can take them away when you feel they've had enough but fingers and thumbs are there whenever they need them.

Some babies don't take to a dummy and i wouldnt force him to take one either as you'll find that he won't let it go, try buying him a chew toy you can get some that have velcro to fit around babies wrist ( mothercare I think ) he will probably enjoy that more than a dummy. Also dummies can be dangerous for babies developing teeth. It does also sound like he's getting ready for teeth soon. Be careful. Good luck.
Happy new year

DO not dip a pacifier in honey!!!! You should never give an infant honey as they could develop botulism from it. There is no reason that a child has to have a pacifier. I have 4 kids and none of mine ever wanted one. Just think - at least you're not having to wake up multiple times a night to give your baby the pacifier that fell out of his mouth. Your baby is probably chewing on his fingers because he is teething. You can try Hyland's Teething Tablets (get them at Walmart or a drugstore etc). My son was born on September 7th 2006 and already has 2 teeth! He doesn't use a pacifier either, but he likes to chew on teething toys and his fingers.

Is a dummy a pacifier?
I don't ever remember using one and I was always a severe nail biter. My mom never really said if I used a pacifier but she did say I always had my fingers in my mouth and as soon as I got my teeth, the nails started coming off. It took me 25 years to finally stop biting them, and I would catch myself doing it once in awhile after that. Now in my 30's, I am on my 2nd set of braces (had them when I was 12).
I'm not saying every kid without a pacifier ends up with nail biting and braces, this is what happened with me. Just sharing my story!!!

It just means he doesn`t need a dummy , ,My granddaughter is 16 months old and she`s hardly ever had a dummy
, Its natural for him to try to put his fist in is mouth,
Think about it at least you wont have to wean him off the dummy when he`s older

Mine only has a dummy when he's tired & in bed - he doesn't have one during the day. He tends to eat his fingers and fists too and its normal, nothing to worry about there.

You're lucky he doesn't want one, he seems perfectly happy without one so don't bother giving him a dummy. Will save you a few quid too.

To those of you who don't know what a dummy is, I believe the US word is pacifier - hope this helps.
