What did you think about the book 'Disgrace' by J.M. Coetzee?

I found it hard to get into, but it kept me interested and I thought it was rather beautifully written. However, I'm not sure why it got so much attention.

A very good book, which was brilliantly edited. No wasted words.
What I found shocking was his next book, Elizabeth Costello. I couldn't believe it was written by the same writer.
Then again, I heard Coetzee had changed his editor.

I liked it. I think it's a metaphor for modern South Africa.
