The major reason was the weather, also spanish ships were large and cumbersome and could not manuover, while the English ships were small and fast, one other reason because the English ships were so small if they got close enough they were lower than the amardas guns the English ship could pound away at the lower part of the Spanish and they coundn,t bring there guns to bear

The Armada had sailed into the North Sea where it was attacked at the Battle of Gravelines. Spanish were mainly bigger than ours at the time and we relied on picking off isolated Spanish ships which had become separated from the main fleet. A combination of weather and poor communication between Spanish Admirals saw the Armada sail off around Scotland and Ireland where a major storm sank most of the Spanish Galleons.
Also the British naval fleet that engaged the Spanish was Admiral Howerd AND NOT NELSON as previously stated.
If Nelson had Fought the Spanish Armada, taking into acount the length of service to rise to Admiral of the Fleet, by the time he finished fighting the French at the Battle of Trafalgar he would have been at least 250 YEARS OLD

Well the Spanish had alot more ships than the English but the English had longer range guns and the Spanish didn't understand the way water and wind influenced their ships in strange parts of the oceans like the English channel so when the Spanish got into the English channel the waters were running to the north and the winds were running in a northerly flow so sir Francis drake took advantage of this and it ruined the Spanish fleet and when the Spanish tried to continue up and around the English island they miss read the maps and also the current of the ocean and ran aground on the northwest of England so there you go and I hope this helps!

The English Navy was smarter than the Spanish Navy They actually launched small boats that had been set ablaze with Greek Fire directly into the Armada and sank the entire fleet this way.

As they said at the time God was on our side and the Spanish were destroyed by the winds.A bit more complicated than that, but together with lighter ships and better tactics, that sums it up.
And boshnpecs , what sort of twerp are you , Nelson was not born until 1758, and he certainly was not around in 1588 at the time of the Armada in which Sir Francis Drake fought !

Through luck and keen leadership by Elizabeth and her generals. The English also had a swifter fleet of smallish ships. King Phillip had a stubborn plan and told his men not to stray from it. Elizabeth allowed her Generals to plan on the fly. The Spanish also hit a hurricane and lost most of their fleet.
