Usually the first time is more difficult than any subsequent pregnancies. The biggest reason for this is purely STRESS. Worry about the birthing process, etc. can slow you down. The actual ease of birthing is determined by several things, including your own body (specifically the size of the pubic opening!), and the size of the baby. You can make it much easier on yourself! I highly recommend taking a birthing class. You do NOT have to do lamaze, or any other specific type of birthing. However, the class will teach you what to expect. Also, talk to your OBGYN about it. He/She can and WILL answer your questions. If you don't understand something they tell you, then let him/her KNOW that you don't understand.

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, so I will answer in both cases. Usually first time births take longer... but it really depends on the person and the situation. I had a friend that was induced that took a little over 8 hours. I also had another friend that had hers naturally and was in labor for 37 hours! I, however, had mine in a little less than 3 hours. Only about an hour of hard contractions, and then 20 minutes worth of pushing... so I had mine pretty easily.
Also... if you are talking about generally going into labor naturally... most first timers go past their due date. I luckily had mine 2 days before my due date, but I had a friend that was 2 weeks over due and another that was almost 3 weeks overdue.. It all depends on your situation.

Being a first time mom, my labor was fairly easy. I didnt know at first what was going on, I just was having pains...not regular or anything all day long. Around 10 at night they started getting bad so I went to the hospital. I had my son at 354 in the morning, and it wasnt hard. The worst was before they gave me an epidural, but after that I couldnt feel anything. It just depends on the person.

All pregnancies and deliverys are different, so there's no sure way of telling how long or soon it will be. Generally though, the first time can take longer than someone who has had a baby before. Your body has never done this before, so it would be safe to assume that it will take a little longer than someone with a more experianced body.

normally it's more difficult because you are more scared of the unknown so you are more tense. also, your body has never been through it so it is more painful because of stretching etc.
most births after your first are shorter and easier. most.
