I think the biggest impact has to be the fact that mobile technology, i.e., pagers, cell phones, laptops, etc. have shrunk the world more than any other step. Now virtually everyone is always within reach. There's no more excuses for not being able to contact someone. Also, it has made it much easier for people to keep tabs on where someone is. Even 20 years ago, much of what is available to keep in touch with someone on the go was unheard of.
