The main Skybox is downstairs, but we've just bought a new t.v. for upstairs, we have the Sky lead for the upstairs one, (and it worked perfectly on the old one). The problem is, it doesn't on this one. I've tried to turn Sky on via the Sky remote but it doesn't work. It's on channel 5 (which it should be for sky) and we just get BBC 1, normal t.v. By the way, we only get THIS if sky is plugged in.

You will need to tune the new tv to an enpty channel to pick up sky via the downstairs didgibox, it won't come on automatically
read your paperwork that came with new tv, you will need to go into the menu mode and auto scan, then lock sky to whatever channel you like.

Sky will only transmitone signal viaone box. The new tvs are not programmed to accept the signal as it is digital. It is a deliberate ploy by sky so that you have to pay for two receiver boxes. The quickest and easiest to go to argos and buy a signal diverter, though when you watch one particular channel downstairs, the same channel will be for upstairs.

Sounds like you are using analogue for the TV so that means you will have to tune it in like a normal TV channel.
You have a TV cable from the Sky box to the U/S TV that looks like regular TV coax.

You might have to change to an AU (auxiliary) channel. Try going to prog 1 (BBC1 ) then going down to 0 and lower.
