How are sex scenes in REGULAR movies filmed?

This question has been plaguing me for a long time. In general it must be slightly weird to film sex scenes. Since they must obviously stop and start over and over again until the scene is perfect. I'm not sure how it must look off screen with all the people around directing with cameras.

From my knowledge, the actors don't actually have any penetration. Something tells me the actors wear little g-strings, but I'm not sure. Since they look completely naked on screen (obviously there has to be editing), I want to finally clear this up. Do the male actors have to wear anything specific during the scene, like a condom or some special sock? Do the female actors wear anything? Do the male actors get hard?

Many actors have commented how difficult sex scenes are, becuase of the start-and-stop nature of the business and everyone gawping at you.

some directors minimize it with having a bare-bones staff on set, but it is still tough

Sex scenes in European films are often done very naturally, with the actors naked, as nudity in Europe is not considered such a big deal. In the U.S., body doubles are used alot, especially when you see a close up of the actors faces, then a cut to another area of the body. That's a cue it's the actor's stand-in.

There are some cases where it might be but 99% of the time this is what you have Both the man and the woman appear to be naked but are not. They are wearing "Body Suits" which appear to be their actual skin. The man wears a blue sock thing (not a condom) that is how sex is really done in hollywood.
