if it isn't cut at all, you can just put it in a pot of dirt(but don't bury the tippy top and keep it watered. This works with sweet potatoes too and then they multiply to make more potatoes, they also have very pretty, long, viney greenery on them, so it is fun to plant a potato or ginger and watch them grow
Make sure there is good drainage in your pot and water whenever the soil is dry and keep it somewhere where sunlight will get to it.

Sure can, but there are other varieties that are far more attractive.

yes. It is a rhizome, so plant it...........shallow.......keep barely moist and warm. Ginger is a tropical plant.
