My old hoover packed up. So I bought a new one but now faced with all this tree mess in the house don't want to use it? Shall I sweep most it up with a brush and then use my new hoover or risk it? Will it block it up?

If you have small children get them to pick up every needle as a "fun game". If they won't, tell them that Santa won't come next year.

I agree with most people sweep first them hoover as there might be some resin on the pine needles which might make the hoover brush sticky, and your troubles begin.

Sweep up most of them first, then pass the hoover over afterwards. It does a better job that way.

Or try a little bit to see what happens!

Sweep the worst up first, then go over the area with a 'sticky roll', then hoover.

Place the foot of an old pair of tights over the suction nozzle and secure it with an elastic band, as you suck the needles onto the nozzle turn the hoover of and drop them into a plastic bag.

I have always heard not to use a vaccum for pine needles, best to be safe and sweep them up and throw them away. Vaccums cost to much to ruin, sweeping them is no cost, just effort!!

probably a good way to test how good the new hoover really is,
but i would probably use the dustpan and brush to get up the worst of it first.
