I've always been curious on how Toho was able to create his roar. Anyway savvy on that?

FordPerfect5 is exactly right! It was a leather glove rubbed on guitar strings.

How in the heck that makes a Godzilla roar I have NO idea, but apparently it works because his roar has stayed constant for 50 years and 28 movies.

All the monsters come from very unique ideas. I mean Mothra, King Ghidorah, Gigan, Jet Jaguar, all their individual roars/screeches are very distinct. Anyone who has seen a few Godzilla movies can pick out their roars almost instantly!

Godzilla's roar was made by dragging a resin-coated leather glove up and down a contrabass and having the subsequent recording slowed down significantly.
