Most companies hire through temporary services now, he should go and apply to a few temp. agencies, they will send him out for jobs on a pretty regular basis and most are temp to hire, when he finds a position he likes then he should make it known that he likes that job and they may hire him. Some of the jobs he probably won't like but, at least he will be bringing in some money. He could also try the big stores optical departments-like Sears and Walmart.

to get a job you have to have a job, that is a simple fact of life
and it isn't what you know, its who you know
you need to get a job, any job, with your sales skills, so you can find a better job
try selling ads for anyone who runs them, tv, radio, newspapers, internet businesses, theatre programs, highschool yearbooks, etc. THAT WAY, you can start visiting businesses and making contacts, while using and refining your sales skills
doing retail sales will not offer that same kind of
opportunity
OR
you could consider entering politics by helping a candidate in their PR dept -- usually people who have sales skills can move smoothly into PR, because there is very little difference between the two, or hiring out to an election campaign.
Good luck!

There are sales jobs everywhere! Almost everything that you see has been bought and sold at one time or another. You need to decide whether you want to stay in sales, whether you want to be in outside sales, inside sales, work for yourself or someone else, and how much money that you require. Start your job search from there. Try to stay away from want ads in the newspaper. Jobs that are worth taking dont have to advertise for them. You need to network. Talk to everybody you know. Dont feel bad because you dont have a job right now. Bad things happen to good people. Hang in there and the right job will come along. Dont Settle!

I recommend Forever Living Products - you can do as many or as few hours as you like and typically on 1-2 hours a day you will earn £1200 per month after 5 months and £30-£40k per year after 2-3 years - if you do more hours you should get more.
They are a $2 billion company growing at 25% per year and need a lot more people - no investment required also, regulated by Dti and Office of Fair trading and have investors in people award also.

If you have former experience in sales and you enjoyed the work you should consider working off those stregths and pursuing work in optical sales since you are knowledgeable in the field. Good sales stems from knowing your materials. Since you know this field... stick with it.
Stop asking Q/A online and make your job FINDING a job.

One choice is self employment in fields you are familar with, namely optical equipment, maybe eyeglasses, and sales.
You could open a website and try to sell online, but I would only do that if you can afford to wait a while before you achieve any level of success.
You could also try multi-level marketing. It's a tough business, so look for a company that's really interested in selling it products, not pushing you to recruit.

Check out my blog on some tips to earning money on the Internet, as well as a list of websites I actively use to earn the money. They are 100% free and scam-free. I have been paid by everyone. From a few of the websites, I earned a little over $200 for the month of December, but your earnings could be much greater.
http://www.swatcash.com/2147 < Using that website alone I have made over $100 in under a week. It's a really great website. You can earn cash as well as Paypal bonuses, Visa Gift Card's and they even have referral contests for cash, as well as giveaways for Nintendo Wii, Ipod Nano and PS3.

Put a ad in your local newspaper that you are looking for employment with breifly your job description. The ad should only be about $10.00 for a week. I have done this myself and always got return calls from people needing employees. Good luck.
