You're using the wrong IP address to get to your router. You should be trying to get to 192.168.1.1 not 192.168.0.1.

The only reason you would attempt to enter the router, is to forward ports. Is this something your trying to do your self?. Granted learning yourself is the best teacher. But For me, Not knowing what brand of router you have I can only say "The most common home router IP number is 192.168.2.1"

9 out of 10 cases, when you simply plug in your router, It is set to a default settings and you should be able to log onto the net automaticlly. There are some other things to think about, It could be possible you have a router and a router/modem "combo".

Most persons when buying from their isp have no clue what to request. Make sure your network is not the above mentioned or you will suffer with these issues.

If you bought this router yourself, did the box appear to be opened?.. it maybe possible someone else could have had this unit before and did some "jerry rigging" for lack of a better term.

Also, depending on the router manufacture. You could locate their home page and look for any "tutorials" or "Learning centers", that offer step by step information pertaining to you settings.

Try resetting the router. There should be either a small button to depress or a hole in which to put a paper clip. Hold the reset switch down for about 30 seconds so that it completely reset's itself to the factory defaults.

Reinstall the router into the setup and you should be okay.

Hope this helps.

I have had the same problem with my router. You probably have a linksys, right? I have been trying for months to get my to work with no results. You may want to go with a different router. I have asked this question here before and have ask many IT people I work with and none of them have been able to solve this predicament.
