If you look at the sum total of human history it is based on conflict. It is based on the differences between us and them, the haves versus the have nots. These differences create conflict and then progress is made through revolutions and subsequent resolutions. That is all we know. Most religions have been formed out of human desire to end this cycle yet because they are made up of humans the cycle repeats itself nonetheless. I think it's scary to admit that we are equal because we are not. We are unique and special in God's eyes yes but equal, I would say no not in this life anyway.

According to developmental psychology there is a certain stage of intellectual development where you understand people's differences. Until you reach that stage anything that is different appears like breaking the rules, and threatens anarchy and chaos.

If you understand people's differences and how each person is equal then it is important for you to also understand that some people are not as wise as you, and that it is not so easy for some to think that way.

It's not necessarily being scared. It is because that is what they are taught as children. However, as one becomes an adult and still does not understand that all men/women are created equal, it could be due to a superiority/inferiority complex. It's not often that people, as adults, form racist/sexist opinions. So, I would look at how they were raised/taught.

Because christians like to feel that they are "special". The rest of us will be left behind ya know. That's one of the big attractions of the religion; they sin, but they repent before they do it again. That makes everything OK.

Even death-row murderers can repent and go to heaven. A homosexual cannot. Lousy way to run a society in my opinion.
