To some people new inventions do make us happier, in some it makes us stressed out therefore we're not happy. Generally though I'd say new scientific inventions do make life go a little more smoothly. I'd be interested to see some kind of study on this though, I bet the decisions will lean towards scientific inventions being happy.

cience does not act on happiness of the individual, certainly in his comfort and discomfort. Comfort from the findings which serve for mankind and discomfort due to the side-effects or byproducts from the inventions. The struggle to go one step forward through science is the satisfaction derived by the scientist and when this serves society it gives him a happiness that cannot be measured. However happiness and sadness due to attitudes are also subjects of study in science. May be the answer will close the gap between a few who are happy and the many who are sad at present, towards happiness.

The most important thing to remember is that inventions like electricity, radio, TV, even match box, dot pen, computers, medical instruments, drugs, antibiotics etc. have made a tremendous impact on human civilisation. These have brought man to a level when his creativity can be expressed and that brings not only comfort but mental satisfaction which is of supreme importance. Man's true happiness lies in the expression of his creativity rather in material comfort.

When we are talking about medical devices that allowed us to develop and inject inoculations so that fathers and mothers do not have to lay their children in their graves the answer is yes.
When we are talking about the discovering of physics that made a plasma screen TV possible, then the answer is no.
Just like other things in life, happiness doing good things that make every one else happy as set down in the bible.
