My favorite part is the description of how she used to help her father with the ships in the bottles. It seemed to me that it described metaphorically the main theme of the book. The father built this safe family environment and held it together while it was clear the mother wasn't entirely happy. He'd finally achieved it and it was balancing so delicately. Then this massive event happened and everything burst into flame.
But at the end of the story the mother is the one who rescues them and puts them all back together.

I love that book and I still have my friend's copy, she let me borrow it a few years ago.
My favorite part was the shower part near the end when Susie is in Ruth's body and gets it on with Ray. It was sweet and hot at the same time...and sad because she had to go back...
According to Wikipedia, it's Literary fiction.
