the answer to your question is simple and sad.
it's corporate and conservative political america who have no problem reducing middle class america to the level of chinese workers or worse.
so that's the simple part of the answer - here's the sad part:
it's also remarkably short sighted. those same corporations that are in a 'race to the basement' with regards to how little they can pay people are the same companies that DEPEND on middle class american consumers to buy their products and keep their companies afloat.
they are not relying on 900,000,000 chinese peasants (sorry if this seems harsh on my part) to buy their products. they are not relying on the working poor of india either.
it's almost as though american corporations have adopted the same kind of strategy as some stock market investors - thinking they can beat the system that they depend on for their livings.
henry ford revolutionized the industrial world when he advanced the idea that those who work in his factories should also be his customers.
it is this basic idea that makes america wealtiest nation and largest economy in the world.
i am equally baffled by the corporations that are constantly begging for tax breaks - i also own a company and know full well what will happen if i don't pay my fair share of taxes - that either middle class americans will pay them or some of the services that they depend on will reduce in quality.
if you drive around your neighborhood and notice that the streets are pretty beat up, this is why.
companies have also discovered a strategy of locating their official headquarters offshore to avoid paying taxes. there was a bill before the last congress that stated that companies that did this would no longer be eligible for contracts in iraq.
the republicans put a stop to that, so that companies like haliburton would be able to continue to get those contracts.
this is a sad tale, and it's not over yet. every time the american govt says that they will bail out anything - like the pensions of large corporations - what they are really saying is that they will shift the burden from the large corporations to the middle class american citizens who seem to no longer have representation in washington d.c.

I don't agree necessarily with the political positions except federal elected and some top bureaucrats> The main issue is in our greedy corporations who care about no one, who basically control government, stealing from the poor to give to the rich!
In addition, they try and pawn off things they should be paying for, but lately have been trying to dump the costs on to the people!
Republicans are going to be going after those between $50,000 and $100,000 to get taxes that should be paid by those who make millions a year!

Depends on who side you look at it from.
Some would say the liberals are the cause because they drive the jobs out. With unions that drive wages up and cause the companies to leave and find lowere wages. With the envorimental laws that drive the cost up doing busines they just move.
Middle class is the manufacturing class.
Others would say that is part of change new world requires new skills. That there is no war but a case of things are changing. The "poor" in this country live as much higher standard of living than the rest of the world. We also have tons of job programs out there.
In my case where I work we can't find enough people to work because they don't want to give up living off the welfare.
As Al Sharpton said there are people who choose not to be part of the working class.
I also wonder how that people who come to this country and work there way up. Like those who are coming from Africa who are bypassing blacks because they work hard.
If you work hard and willing to start low and work you way up you are not limited. Too many think that if they have a college education you should start with 6 figures.
Sorry but the better question is my mind is why don't poor Americans want to work harder?

I know. Tragic, isn't it? All the glowing reports on the economy focus on profits for war profiteering with little to no focus on real-world effects to a majority of our population.
Then they (conservatives) look at a specific race and the attendant crime rates - they do profiling but don't look any deeper for a true cause and effect. Could it be that economic and political decisons may have actually made crime worse in impoverished areas? Oh heavens, no! But lock the doors on your Yukon, just the same.
You have to admit that they are successful. They've succeeded in scaring the white race. There are some - even here on YA - that believe that certain races are genetically predisposed to crime.

I no longer particular the way you come back up with that, as Obama has stopped the pipe line which could have created pastime, He supply up the AT&T merger which could have created jobs, He has higher the price of hiring human beings consisting of his well being care bill i see which will value each organisation 2,000.00 in step with three hundred and sixty 5 days in step with worker can no longer blame them for no longer desirous to take that on. He now refuses to signal the pay-position tax smash, which i communicate about he wanted, so how is it the republicans fault. also once you seem on the very shown reality that for the first 2 years of his time period he would have handed some thing he wanted he had finished administration. awaken guy your pay interest to a lot to CNN, cbs, abc, msnbc.

Democrats and it will get worse. They are so giddy in their statements about raising taxes and guess who won't be paying these? Neither the rich or poor as much as the middle income. They want to raise the minimum wage which hasn't been touched in 10 yrs for a good reason. It will put undue hardship on the little guy who will have to cut his benefits to his employess and charge us more to cover. And of course they will go all out helping the poor and minorities so that I the middle guy will have even more taken out of my pocket. This is only the start.

Ummm .... What middle class? From what I can see, people are either sitting on a stack of money that their parents left them and they spend their days and money buying legislators and justifying why this situation is right and just. Or both parents in the family work so hard to make a living there is no one left to raise the kids.
WHAT middle class?

our own government is at war with the middle class....guess they never heard the story about the goose & the golden egg.... if they were not intent on "killing off" the middle class why would they support amnesty for illegals? The illegals are the ones taking the jobs of middle-class Americans & working for less money...of course they can work for less since our govt. is forcing middle-class Americans (thru our tax dollars) to furnish them with all the essentials that Americans have to pay for....

The politicians...the wealthy don't pay and the poor don't have anything to give. That's why we're the middle class....getting squeezed from both sides.
