anything you buy will be appreciated. Just be willing to lend a hand and ear for her new emotions. Sometimes friendships mean more than a gift. especially at a time like that.

I think taking the mom a card and a small gift is a good idea. Lotions or bubblebath, scented candles, etc. She did all the work, and the baby shower should have taken care of all the baby stuff.

Tradition is flowers, or a single pink rose. But I always hated it when the flowers died. When my daughter had a baby I took her a small plant that bloomed little pink flowers. She thought I was wierd for doing that, so I never take give plant again.

FOOD! For the mom, that is. She will be starving, especially if she is breastfeeding. Even if she isn't, it's the first time in months that she'll have room for a full meal in her tummy and will be able to eat without heartburn. I found the hospital meals were not enough to satisfy me. I had to send my hubby to the caf to get a 2nd meal.

Try some nice fruit, whole-wheat crackers, trail mix, juice and other healthy, non-perishsable snacks. A magazine is nice, too. Don't worry about getting things for baby, she probably got tons of stuff at her baby shower.

Edible arrangements delivered after she comes home are great ,because it is as beautiful as flowers and provide a nutritious quick snacks fir the new mom who is too tired and busy to sit down and eat a good meal!
Diapers are great, and so are clothes a little bigger say 3-6 months size. You could get the book "what to expect the first year" or a subscription to Parents magazine, everyone will be buying the normal newborn stuff, your gift will last longer and stand out to be remembered.

Don't bring anything big. Trust me nothing is more awful than having too many flowers and huge balloons. They take up valuable space in your 1/2 of a room. I suggest a card and a cute diaper bag to put all the stuff in that they accumulated. Either that or you could ask what she needs like shampoo, or a hair brush or another item that they may have forgot. Good Luck.

I really appreciated gift cards. Money is tight in that first few weeks of adjustment, so to be able to go out any still buy stuff was great. Instead of buying an adorable outfit, try for a pair of sleepers. They're more practical for new babies... they grow way too fast. How about something for Mom... gift certificate for dinner out, or a massage, or a movie?

As a Mom of 3, I would say that my favourite things people gave me for baby were outfits, and stuff I could use like diapers and wipes. A little something just for Mom would be sweet too, like a bathset or something. Everyone thinks of baby, and not of Mom. I would have been thrilled if someone bought something in just for me!

Happy shopping! :)

I would have loved for someone to have given me diapers, wipes, formula, etc. the things that you use the mose but rarely get as gifts. Most of the time, you go out and by baby clothes, bath supplies, towels, etc. on your own or with your spouse, so the things like diapers, etc. get overlooked (or you use them all up). What also would have been nice (speaking as someone who has no famiy living near them) is someone who would've brought me suppers or came over to do the laundry, etc. Perhaps a homemade coupon book for meals, cleaning, laundry, etc. would be well appreciated as well :)

Being a mom of four, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The new mom already has sooo much she will have to lug out of there! I appreciated the gifts, but wish people would have waited until I got home. If you feel you absolutely have to get something, make sure it's small. Stuffed animal, toy for the new baby or better yet, a gift certificate for the new mom or dad!
