There are several, such as ****, *****, *****-*****, I have even heards whites called ***********. Why this is considered offensive is beyond my understanding.

this question is in the wrong place but a good question.
i do not believe in the whole 'it's a black word and we can use it and you whites can't' theory.
it is a stupid double standard. how can a person get mad for HEARING something derogatory but saying it to their mates makes it OK?
you can't have it both ways.
freedom of speech in all cases. either everyone uses the word or no one.
also, are you asking for a new word to call black ppl or a cool slang word for whites use it on each other to be 'down'? chillin'? or whatever the vernacular is these days to fit in with the pack.
no new slang, just use proper grammar. it never goes out of style and there is no played out words to retire.

I thoink black ppl should retire the n-word and come up with a slang term we all can use.
As far as i ca tell anong blacks the n-word is like the f-word. Its meaning depends on context.
1) If a non-black says it. It means he's challenging you for a fight.
2) If you say it with disgust, it is kind of meant to talk about ppl who behave according to the stereotypes more or less.
3) If said with a smile, its like "dude". Hey, "n" hows it going, as long as the speaker is black.

no and balck people shoulndnt use it all . it is the most derogotory term for a black man and refers to slavery and should never be used . it is terrible . i remember living in toronto and having black friends who would greet each other using the "N" word , and i was shocked to say the least. NO . white people should not have a word of their own for it and neither should any other culture . ( whites are sometimes referred to as "trailer trash")

The n-word is used by blacks b/c it is in our society and they are treated that way still in 2007.
I don't agree with it, and I think it perpetuates the problem however as white people have never had to be discriminated against nor enslaved that this generation can remember,like blacks, I think a little understanding goes a long way.
I just try to ignore it.

we do, we're called cracker, wonder bread, honkie... and whatever else we're called. It doesn't bother me though because I'm white. call me whatever name you can think of. it's my color and i'm proud, i can't change it.
