Always remember, that your employees under your supervision are cut from the same cloth as yourself, everyone is equal, you just happened to be higher up the ladder, respect and equality in the realization that this is your family, will help your sales and production go thru the roof in no time.

I was a sales lead, then promoted to manager (retail). It can be fun and suck at the same time. Now that your a manager you have to supervise your 'friends" which can be tricky if they call out or their productivity slows down. Your stress level is going to rise 100% now that your the boss, always ask for advice and support from your boss and one or 2 of your good employees. I learned what not to do from former managers, don't be an ******. I never push anyone around or think I'm better than them. we are equals, we work to make a living and we need to work as a team. Always support your good team members and let them know they've done a good job. Have any serious 'weak members'? Get rid of them fast. I'm serious. I had one guys that was so lazy, it bugged the hell out of me(stress). He would take 15 min breaks in the restroom! and then take another 15 when we all went on break. He finally quit once I brought it to the store managers attention.
Also 'work', I know this sounds crazy, but I can't stand manager that don't work. They'll sit in the office bossing people around and then get mad when things don't get done, "well get you *** up and work" is what I would always think -lol-. I work hands on with all my employees, unloading the truck, stocking the merchandise, etc. You'll never see me sitting around, I always want to set a good example to others.

Good LUck! It's a tough job being the boss.

I know in the corporate world, at most companies, if a relationship is between a manager and co-worker it is not tolerated and the action taken would be i.e. offer transfer to one of the employees, employee could not report to manager, etc. There were many romances and some marriages over the years and each person worked in a different department or location. Some people we never knew, which is why I find it strange your boss it aware of the situation, that they lived together or were dating. There is no legal recourse if this is the company's policy which is in place to i.e. prevent favortism or promotions by you of your partner, sometimes relationships get ugly meaning that this could and has cause disruption on the job, other employees view this unfavourably, some partnerships have resulted in illegal activity on the job etc. It appears the only recourse you have if you both want to retain your jobs is that your girlfriend needs to transfer and apply at another location because your boss will follow through on the terminations. Good Luck!!

i used to be a manager at pizza hut,and i was real good here is how-first of all put store policies and business over your workers-thats why you there after all -not to be everyones buddy! ,but dont be so insensative that it makes you look like a dick, you have to be somewhat obsessive about your job, dont play favorites and never and i mean never under any condition, and i say this from experience, never date anyone you work with!!!! the other employees will say you playing favorite with that person even if your not, that will make them respect you less and its all down hill from there, also if you have someone thats giving you trouble,FIRE THEM,it will show the others that your serious about your job,and make them try a little harder!

I was a food service manager for many years. You need to be firm and fair.If you have friends that will be working for you friendship ends at the door. You can be friends outside of work.NEVER EVER reprimand in front of others (customers or employees).Always take the person aside to correct the wrong.Have fun and enjoy yourself. It is hard work ,but I loved it.

my husband used to be a shift manager for a fast food link "wendys" all he had to do was be responsible for everything and what all the crew does. you cant be friends with your friends remember that. good luck but eventually he quit cause they would tell him only to go to another wendys restaraunt and get some other merchandise and they would take him for granted hope yours wont do that.
