Just because way back then country music sucked anus. Still does, just not as much, at least now some of the musicians have talent. Williams was up against people like Freddy Fender, Don Williams, Charlie Pride, not the greatest competition.

Hey, I may not be crazy about his music, but as a lifelong musician, I have the experience and sense to recognize why some writer/performers were special.

If he were not a classic icon in country music, his songs would not have endured and been recorded by others like: James Brown, Bob Dylan, George Thorogood, Nora Jones, Linda Ronstadt, and many more.

Well John Doe, you are right, there are a lot of us with that monster within us, that's why America related to Hank's songs, they recognized that Hank was special in revealing what is in all of our hearts and souls, it's just too bad, not every one can recognize this, and I don't put down anybody else's music, until I have walked in their shoes, no matter how awful it sounds, "it's just their bag"!!
