I know it comes with a wii remote (which are out of stock everywhere). Is this just a marketing ploy to get me to shell out extra money for a controller?

I'm going to get it, and have mine pre-ordered already. :-D I'm a really big fan of mini games, and love the Mario Party franchise, and the Wario Ware Inc type games. It doesn't really bother me about the price, although I admit bundling it with the wiimote seems to be kind of a cash grab. I already have two wiimotes, and two nunchucks. So probably when I do get WiiPlay, I'll just get another nunchuck to have three sets.

It's the same as when places like Toys R US bundle the Wii, or a PS3 etc with three games just to jack up the price, when the consumer probably would not have bought those games if they had the choice. It all comes down to retailer profit! :-(
