You cannot use Quicktime to watch a DVD. It is not DVD playing software. Its nothing to do with your having a DVD drive or not, if you have a computer that can play CD-ROM games, you can most likely watch DVD movies, try getting a program like Intervideo.

You give Apple $20 for the MPEG2 component for Quicktime: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/.

All things considered, it's probably simpler, and cheaper, to install VLC if you don't like whatever player is already on your system: http://www.videolan.org/.
