All these celebs such as Bono and co, spend most of their lives asking us poor povs for money to make poverty history or whatever, as they stand there in their pink tinted sunglasses that probably cost more than my house, why dont they all donate and 10th of their wealth and us poor people wouldnt be made to feel guilty, why doesnt Lenny Henry and his missus half there weekly food bill and give to charity? The bloody nerve...

Bono actually doesn't give any of HIS cash to charity, he might sing a free song now and again at a rock concert in the name of charity, but that doubles as good publicity.

He doesn't pay any tax that is for sure because he has moved his 'business' offshore to avoid UK taxes. So in my mind the man is a hypocrit.

All businesses get tax relief if they donate something to a named charity so they are not doing it out of the goodness of their heart.

Good idea about French and Henry though!!

Bono has done a lot for this world, and has donated loads of money to many different charities. he has also founded charities such as (red). you can see the charities that U2 are involved in on their website. and by the way, for some of the charities such as make poverty history and DATA, they aren't asking for your money, they are asking for your voice, to speak up and raise awareness. And yes, Bono and 'co' may ask for you to donate money, and then go off to their big mansions in paris... but these people are making millions and are very sucessful. do you think they are going to live like middle-class people? they have earned the money and deserve it. might as well use it.

Me and my friends had this discussion only a few weeks ago. We came to the conclusion that a lot of celebs and wealthy people give money to charities and do a lot of work for them but they don't always publicise it. They probably give a bigger percentage of their earning than us "normal" folk do.

And you shouldn't have to feel guilty - if you want to donate then you do, if you don't you don't. Same goes for celebs - it's not really fair to poke fun at them when you don't really know how much they donate.

Bono has done lots, probably more than a 10th of his wealth. As well as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, it's so great that they adopt from third world countries. They have done lots, so don't complain, it's better than them doing nothing.

It would not propose something. it is only something celebrities do at meet-and-greets. He acted stunned once you probably did it back because of the fact he in all probability only did it as a "make the fan swoon" element and did not mean something with the aid of it. Sorry.

it makes sense for wealthier people to donate more- which i'm sure some do.... for those that don't- well, there are more of us meagre people who can spare a few quid by sacrificing a night out once in a while.... it's good for karma too.
