how many of you (myself included) have a jar with loose change in, i put it in the jar as i dont want it in my purse, i bet the royal mint wouldnt have to make any more 1p,2p,5p,10p,20p's for a while if we put them all back into circulation.

Coin Star is the answer. People say I'm stupid for eating that 8% charge, but these moron have jars full of coins collecting dust and doing absolutely nothing for them. Money's meant to be spent.

I try to give the cashier the right change where possible so that i get an even amount of money back&it doesnt build up bc when it does its a nightmare, i know lots of ppl who keep lots of spare change in jars and yes the royal mint would have a much easier time if it was in circulation insted!!

Here in the US. With debit cards and the like we are getting away from currency as a form of transactions. To answer the question, yes I keep a jar and when it is full, I change it for paper currency and have some mad money to spend. It cost more to mint the coins than they are worth and the metal, such as nickel and copper is worth more than the coin it represents. I also understand they have passed a law prohibiting melting down coins and also to shipping large amounts of coins abroad.

I keep mine in a Jar and every month or so I take it to Sainsbury's and put it in the Coin Star machine. It usually adds up to 20 to 30 quid! You can donate it to charity, or get a voucher that you can spend in the store!

I keep loose change in a can for emergencies when I have ran out of funds before next pay day. It also makes great gifts for kids on holidays. I buy special piggy banks and add change in each one for nephews, nieces, ect....for baby shower gifts to start the babys first savings account.......on and on
