I'm graduating from college next month and I have two job offers.

Job 1 pays $67,000 per year and it's work I really enjoy doing and I will be good at it.

Job 2 pays $103,000 per year but the work doesn't excite me and it's not a perfect match for my skills so I'll probably only be average at it.

Which one should I take. It would help if you told me your age.

First of all...what the heck did you major in to get such high-paying job offers? I'm curious...and serious. Email me back I have to know! Anyways, I think the answer is obvious. Yes one pays more, but what is money really worth? Is it worth your happiness? If you're desperate for money than take job #2. But if you want to be happy and be paid rather well, take #1. The money isn't worth it unless you enjoy what you do. By the way, I'm 22 and still in college...

I'm 35, a lawyer and because of school loan debt I'm forced to do a job I'm OK with - not crazy about, but can do well and get home at a decent hour. I'd like what I did much more if I could do it 25-30 hours a week instead of 45!

Money is not everything. Generally the more money you make, the more time you spend at the office, so you better like what you are doing. It's important to like what you are doing and like who you work with.

I think it does depends on your situation. Do you have a lot of debt to pay off? Can you do Job 2 for a few years, pay off debt and then go back and do job 1 in a few years?

I am 32 and rather than taking a job in the government as a civil engineer that was a given, I laboured with the best company in my opinion, on a building site for two months, to show my eagerness, until a site engineer post came up so that I could get big job experience from the ground up, no pun intndd. I went for experience and today I am on $170,000 with a private company which is more than my father a civil engineer's boss is making. I love my job now and there is still a lot of the private sector to climb so got to go ladders to climb

(I'm 57) and it would be silly of me to give you defintive advice without knowing more. Personally, at your age I would put a premium on finding a position that provided a lot of learning that you can leverage later. Spending 3-4 years at someplace like a Procter & Gamble or a Goldman Sachs (depending on your field) will give you invaluable experience and a great resume. If you can pull six-figure jobs right out of college, you should be capable of developing a long, prfotiable career. I'd focus on the long-term rathee than the short term. You (or your parents) probably know some people like me who have done that. Ask them to give you an hour of their time and get their considered advice.

I'm in my late 30s. I've had a few interesting, fun, badly paid jobs, and one boring, difficult well-paid one. Right now I'm working as a teacher in the developing world and earning around US$10,000 (ten thousand) per year. I am outrageously happy. I don't hate monday mornings. I never imagined I'd enjoy working so much. I say go for job #1.
