people roof all the time around where i live and the temp is sometimes -20 i think its more for the worker comfort than the product

I assume you mean to install. Asphalt roofing seals by the temperature which causes the tar to melt and seal to the shingle below it. This will not happen in cold weather. Read the installation on the packaging the shingles come in. It will tell you the minimum installation temp.

we roof year round here in CT. if you use good quality shingles they will lie flat and are strong enough to stay in place till the temp seals them. they do tack down just from the heat from your house, and seal for good come spring/summer. just get 30 year shingles, better to fix the roof than wait to fix a bad roof. the leak would cause more damage than a blown off shingle. that has only happened to me once in 25 years of roofing. and the roof that it blew off of would have lost more if it was still the old one. good luck!

It depend on the material used. Asphalt/Fiberglas is recommended at no less then 50 degrees F. Steel roofs can be install year-round. Tile (cement or clay) can be done above point of freezing with a twenty-four hour cure time.
