That isn't true in all cases, I have lots of friends and I'm an honor student, cpt. of the basketball team, head cheerleader, beta club president, school vice-president, and homecoming queen and I have friends from every clique in my grade. Just be an open-minded, friendly, outgoing, and not such a know-it-all person and people won't have feelings like that toward you.And don't cut yourself off from eveyone else and try to make a large variety of friends, never be an anti-social and don't let your academics ruin your life.Especially your social life, just because your smart doesn't mean you have to be perfect, study constantly and be a goody goody.

I don't think that's completely true. I get great grades (whoa, say that 5 times fast) but I don't think anybody hates me or anything. I have a lot of friends, though I won't consider myself as one of the populars (I do have popular friends, though). It probably depends on the person. I take time to meet new people and I try to be likeable.

I don't think it's explained as easily as saying jealousy. Being accepted by peers has to do with their ability to interact with others. The nerdy smart kid will not be liked but it's not because he's smart, that's just a part of his overall profile. There are many kids who make good grades but are not nerds, and they are liked just fine.

They're usually jealous. It seems the unmotivated kids and the "smart" kids are usually put into different categories. Some people are just unmotivated and find it easier to dislike those that do well then to study.
Not all kids dislike the smart ones, only those who don't try.

People like me! I do well in school and I am popular at the same time. My intelligence helps me alot, I don't need to study really hard like the other nerds to get good grades!

Jealousy, pure and simple I'm afraid. People who lack confidence in there own ability feel bad when they come across others who achieve what they can't.

usually they are jealous that they do not do as well, they maybe think they're not as smart and find it easier to tease ppl than to study harder

They think they are freaks, geeks, losers, nerds, did I mention geeks? I don't have a problem with them but I just wish they weren't so smart and know-it-alls. That is what irratates me.

Largely jelousy...
Its always a factor in school that has a big issue, people tell us to be different and to love difference, yet us as a culture do not promote differences.
My favourite example is on applications etc. when they ask you to state your religion - wtf does that matter about anything?

seriously, honey, it is called jealousy. it also doesn't help when kids are trying to convince themselves, their parents and their teachers that work is too hard while you sit there and ace everything even the extra credit. keep up the good work, they are just lazy.
