I know that if you sign up another person for (snail mail) a magazine subscription, you can be charged for mail fraud. It's a federal crime.

Phillip, I'm not planning on doing this to another person. Somebody gave my e-mail address to spammers.

I'm not exactly sure if it's a crime or if the law would step into any of it but I do know that it's incredibly rude. Since spam mail online is something more easily dealt with (ex. they can delete the emails or add them to their "spam" list and aren't charged for getting them) then it's most likely not a federal crime. But like I said, incredibly rude and mean.

It's probably not a crime. The cops haven't knocked on MY door yet.

I've tracked down several spammers' private e-mail addresses and added them to as many spam lists as I could find. Sauce for the goose, yadda yadda...

SPAM is a fact of life in the modern age. Just learn to live with it. There'd be no way to track down the person that added your e-mail address anyway -- the spammers don't keep records of that stuff -- and it's completely possible that your address got on the lists by some other means.

Wow I didn't know that! Um... I think It is not illegal but it kind of rude unless you are good friends or it is a joke I'm not sure though.

Against the law? l don't know. But whoever your intended victim is, if they have more brain cells than you (that would be at least two), they will get the first one, hit the spam filter and get no more.
Why don't phone ambulances, funeral directors, pizza deliveries or put a pipe bomb under their car. That would be a real wheeze.

I don't think it is - yet - but I hope it won't be too long before a law is passed - it seems to me this would fall into the harrassment category.
