Agree with all answers above. We fed our 3 Siamese dried food up to a pretty late age. All developed kidney disease. Our favorite, a dear little lynx-point, sweetest, feistiest, boldest and most affectionate little creature in the world, died of kidney failure a little shy of 17 years of age. Her half-brother died two weeks ago at 18. Only their sister, a seal-point, is left, and trust me, we have been really babying her - meaning: only KD diet with a little water mixed in, and seasoned with either Forti Flora (very good for cats, though like all "extras" I wouldn't give more than a couple small envelopes a day on wet food) or dried tuna flakes that you can get in a good pet store. NO human foods! I am addicted to Cozy Shak rice pudding and when I'm finished I leave the container on the floor for Trooch to lick out. But no more than that. It's maybe 1/4 t. We also fed her brother the same diet. Had we known, we would have aggressively treated Zoe's kidney disease the minute we found out about it, and had her on KD with a flavor inducement as soon as we knew about the illness.

Yes I do. My pets ARE my life. My kids complain I treat my pets better than I treat them. Yes I would risk my life for my pets and especially my family.

It just depends on the situation. For instance, if it came down to saving my child or my dog, i'm going with my child. A person couldn't possibly know what they would, until they are put in that situation.

I am crazy about my dog, but no I wouldn't risk my life to save her. Who would look after my daughter if I did that?
