I want to work in advertising, too. I"m majoring in English, with a concentration in journalism. Usually, any type of communication major or english major is fine but it would depend on what school you plan on going to. You should check out this website: http://www.bls.gov/oco/. It breaks down careers- talks about its outlook, popularity, what you should major in, all kinds of stuff. Just search the handbook- type in "advertising."

Most colleges offer some form of an advertising / journalism degree. Usually to earn a degree, the college will tell you what classes you have to take, and then your academic adviser will probably suggest some others courses also. If you are still in high school and looking for colleges, look for a university that has a strong journalism department (or business department). If you are already in college, go talk to someone in the journalism department.
You might also want to look at a marketing degree. As with a degree in advertising, usually the university tells you what you need to take.
Good Luck.

I work in advertising and had a BS in BA with a major in Marketing...but I work with people who have all kinds of backgrounds/majors in college. There isn't one set path into advertising, but if you're going ot a school with business courses, of course it wouldn't hurt to take things like Management, Marketing, Statistics, etc. And Psychology, Sociology, Organizational Behavior, Economics would all be good, too. If you can take an Advertising course, work that in, too. Certainly can't hurt!
Good luck.
