with personal property? (Tennesse law would be the most helpful)

*property was left unpaid for 5 days, room was dead bolted

*occupant called requesting personal property, but was told everyday bill wasn't paid and/or belongings transferred, the room would be charged again.

Dilemma: If the room continues to be charged occupant cannot pay.....What is the law?

I work in a hotel in WA state and I'm speaking with the knowledge of our laws, I don't know if it's the same in TN. The way I'm reading this is the guest still had a key to the room and was using it during the 5 days the hotel was unpaid. They do have the right to remove the belongings and deadbolt the room. If you don't pay, you don't get their services. They also have the right to keep any belongings that were left on their property as collateral until they receive payment. It would be just like if your landlord changed the locks on your house after you didn't pay your rent for a couple months. They don't have to let you in or let you get your belongings until they have received the payment. HOWEVER: the hotel can not continue to charge the occupant after they deadbolted the room. If the service is not being provided any longer they can not continue to charge for it. I hope this helps.

to my understanding the objects left behind has to be put in safe place and you have to go to your prosecutor and file paper work against said person .you can not destroy someones personal property without first going through legal proceedures in any state..you should have already moved articals to basement or storageroom.. court will decide how much they have to pay
